The Sparwood Futures Society was founded in 1986 and is made up of a collection of service organizations with a mandate to:
• To promote the well-being of the citizens of the District of Sparwood and the Elk Valley area.
• To engage in projects for the advancement of citizens of the District of Sparwood and the Elk Valley area.
• To promote the economic, cultural, social and recreational well-being of the citizens of the District of Sparwood and the Elk Valley Area.
• To acquire, hold, lease, manage, rent or sell real estate and property for the purposes of promoting, establishing and maintaining of facilities for the enhancement of the well-being of the citizens of the District of Sparwood and the Elk Valley Area.
The Sparwood Futures Society has been instrumental the creation of a number of successful Sparwood projects including the Mountain Shadows Campground, Lilac Terrace, the Sparwood Water park, and most recently the Sparwood Skatepark.
The Sparwood Futures Society continues to operate the Mountain Shadows Campground, which was created in 1986.
