THINGS TO DO

The Elk River is a pinnacle of the East Kootenays as it flows from high up in the Rocky Mountains. Over its course, the river offers world-class dry fly fishing for Westslope Cutthroat.

The Sparwood Golf Course offers 9-holes, rolling fairways and beautiful mountain vistas. No tee times needed, walk on course.

All-season indoor pool, whirlpool, sauna, sports courts and childrens programs. The leisure centre offers fitness classes and a gym, climbing wall, raquetball and squash courts, and swimming lessons. The arena offers ball hockey in the spring and hockey in the winter. Playgrounds, soccer and baseball fields surround the leisure centre, with a running track. There is a water spray park located beside the centre as well. So much fun for all ages.

An annual festival celebrating Sparwood’s heritage with a golf tournament, parade, sporting events and a street maket. Coal Miner Days takes place on the second weekend in June each year.

During July & August, tours of Teck’s Elkview Operations depart three times per week from the Sparwood Visitor Centre. Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 1pm. Educational and fun.

Cost is $10 per adult, $8 per senior and youth. Children under 5 are free.
