Sparwood Chamber of Commerce

The Sparwood District Chamber of Commerce was incorporated in 1983 with the objective being “to sustain existing business, enhance business opportunities and improve the economic, social, ecological and cultural wellbeing of the community through demonstrated leadership in the promotion of economic development and diversification and support for, and initiation of community events” .

The Chamber’s major funder is its close partner, the District of Sparwood. The objectives of the Chamber of Commerce are closely linked to those of the District and the recently updated OCP, a copy of which can be downloaded here.

Operating from the same premises and with the same management, the Chamber operates the Sparwood Visitor Information Centre, and is a founding member of the Provincial Tourist Network. Through the Visitor Centre at the first stop off point in BC from Alberta, thousands of visitors are provided with information about Sparwood and the beautiful Elk Valley as well as the rest of British Columbia.

During the summer months it is not uncommon to have up to 20,000 people a month and sometimes 1,000 people per day stop at the Visitor Centre. Many of those visitors stop to visit Titan Park , located within the ground of the Visitor Centre and home to the World’s Biggest Truck. The park welcomes local residents as “Sparwood Ambassadors” during the summer months who connect with visitors from all over the world to provide additional information on local business, services, facilities and local points of interest .

The Business Information Centre provides services to local businesses and entrepreneurs through its lobbying and research capabilities.  In addition, the BIC works to promote new businesses and provides valuable information on business opportunities in the municipality as well as assisting in the relocation of businesses and individuals to Sparwood.

The Chamber offers ongoing support to other community groups and provides a cost-free conduit for non-profit group and community notices appearing on the Community TV Channel operated by Shaw Cable.
